The 10 and Under Kids Club at Carroll HS is canceled for the Feb. 12, today, but will start next week Feb. 19 at 2:00 PM. We are sorry for the inconvenience but the weather has inhibited play. We will have someone at the courts today if you wish to sign up or you may do so online.

 

Learn to play at a Kids' Club

The 10 and Under Kids Tennis Clubs are set to start at Carroll High School tennis courts on February 5th at 2 pm. Flour Bluff High School courts will be the other site of a Kids Club, starting February 12th at 2 pm. Each Club will last 6 weeks and the cost is $35 per child. Get the kids signed up for a great time of fun and tennis instruction! Payments are accepted online or at the first session. Racquets are provided if needed. The next round of Kids’ Clubs will start April 15th and will have several other sites. That sign up will be posted in two weeks, so check back!

The CCTA will be starting a new round of 6 week Kids Clubs at various locations around the Coastal Bend beginning the week of February 5th. The Kids Clubs are designed to provide group activities to learn the beginning skills of tennis. The cost is $35 per 6 week session. We are busy finalizing the locations and times these programs will be available so be sure to check back. And don’t forget the Sign up and Festival planned on the night of January 16th beginning at 6 pm at HEB Tennis Center! The CCTA Awards & Recognition Banquet held on Friday, December 2nd at the beautiful Corpus Christi Country Club was a huge success.  Ron Woods acting as Master of Ceremonies had the honor of presenting awards and recognizing individuals and teams during the evening.  The crowd exceeded the numbers last year as over 225 people attended the banquet this year.

Steve Moore, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Director of Tennis was the keynote speaker for the evening and did an outstanding job with a very inspiring talk on team work.

Team Sexy, the womens’ 40 and over league winner in the 4.5 division, was undefeated in the sectionals event held at Lakeway World of Tennis in Austin this past weekend. The new USTA league format, slated to begin in 2013, will change to 18 and over, 40 and over, and 55 and over leagues. Corpus Christi had a good turnout in the 4.5 division and Team Sexy continued its dominance from the regular 4.5 division into the 40 and over league. The team, consisting of Christine Cone, Patti Bean, Kathy Samuels, Nancy Aleman, Loyce Woods, Gabi Hilpold, and Carolyn Burch, lost only one line at sectionals. Congratulations!

Area Jr Team Tennis teams participated at their sectionals event held at John Newcombe’s Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels this past weekend. We were well represented by the Team Premier 12 and under Intermediate team (Carlos Rios, coach), who came in third in their division; Al Kruse Purple 18 and under Intermediate team (Ed Emery,coach), fifth in their division; and Al Kruse Blue 14 and Under Intermediate (Melissa MacInnis and Shanon Fowler) who won that division! These youngsters are great ambassadors for the Coastal Bend at these statewide events and we appreciate all of their hard work and sportsmanship. Congratulations to all the teams who played in the Fall League and we look forward to seeing you back in the spring!

Tickets and tables are going fast for our upcoming end-of-year and awards banquet and you don’t want to miss it! We will be honoring all of our great individuals and teams who have excelled in tennis and volunteered their time and effort to tennis here in the Coastal Bend. We are excited to have Steve Moore, Islanders’ head tennis coach, as our speaker this year! The event, held once again at Corpus Christi Country Club, will begin at 6 pm with a ticketed bar, and the actual banquet will start at 7 pm. This is a great fundraiser for the CCTA, so come on out and enjoy a great evening, while helping support the CCTA. There will be a silent auction also with some super items you will want to bid on!
