College Night is Back!
The Corpus Christi Tennis Association is proud to host College Night! We know that the thought of college tennis can be daunting. We have gathered several coaches from different programs to showcase that YES…college tennis IS possible!
Playing college tennis adds another layer of fun, excitement and friendship to the college experience!
This is meant for players of any age who would like to learn more about college tennis. What is the difference between DI, DII, DII and NAIA. What are college coaches looking for in players? How do they find their players? Where are they looking? Does UTR mean everything? What about the new USTA – WTN number? Should players reach out to coaches at schools they are interested in? What does a typical practice look like?
These are just a few of the questions that will be answered!
Coaches are excited to watch some tennis and speak to everyone after the day of tennis is done!
Each player who attends college night will be entered into a drawing for tickets to the All American Cup!
This is a CASUAL event that will be outside, so please come as you are!

Coaches
Coach Steve Moore from the Corpus Christi Islanders talk about DI tennis and the dedication it takes to play at that level
- Led Islanders to 15 NCAA Tournaments and 31 SLC Titles
- 15 NCAA's at same school rank Moore first all-time in Southland Conference history - all sports and all coaches
- 13 Coach of the Year awards - All-time Southland record in any sport
- 2013 ITA Texas Coach of the Year (All D-I coaches in Texas)
- Coached at 3 top 25 schools -Texas A&M, Texas Tech and SMU
- Led Islanders to NCAA top 40 ranking four years
- Over 600 career victories as NCAA D-I Head Coach
- 3.0 team GPA in 41 straight semesters
- Selected to NCAA National Tennis Committee and ITA Chairman for D-I Texas
- Led Islanders to historic Southland success -- 1-of-4 sports in SLC history to win 10 titles in 11 years.
Coach Autumn Wollenzien from A&M Kingsville Javelinas will give her perspective on DII tennis and what that entails.
- Wollenzien earned SIAC Coach of the Year honors twice (2011 and 2013)
- 2011 Outstanding Coach of the SIAC in 2011 and 2012
- Recipient of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Multi-Cultural Grant which afforded her the opportunity to attend the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Coaches Convention to enhance her coaching acumen.
- In 2013, her team finished third in the conference tournament and in 2014, they placed second in the conference tournament. While at Clark Atlanta, two of her players were named Player of the Year and one Freshman of the Year.
- She is a certified teaching pro through the United States Professional Tennis Association and Professional Tennis Registry.
Coach David Mueller from Texas Lutheran University will talk about playing for a DIII program.
"David Mueller is one of the top Tennis Coaches in Texas. I am tremendously excited that he has agreed to lead the TLU Men's and Women's Tennis Program. I have known Coach Mueller for many years. He is a tennis coaching legend in Comal County and he is also a high character coach who coaches for the right reasons. He coaches with passion and integrity. He will be a tremendous role model for the men and women in the TLU Tennis Program. He is also an intense competitor. He will build a winning tennis program at TLU. This will be a new chapter in TLU Tennis. I am really excited about what the future holds for our tennis program," stated Miller.
- During Mueller's tenure as head coach at New Braunfels High School, the Unicorns won 25 individual state championships and eight team tennis state championships across the 5A and 6A levels.
- Mueller has served as the President of the Texas Tennis Coaches Association (TTCA) and has served on the TTCA board.
- TTCA Coach of the Year twice and has also earned Coach of the Year honors from the San Antonio Express-News.
Coach Jacob Carillo from Schreiner University from Kerrville will talk about his program and what DIII tennis has to offer.
- Women's Assistant Coach at Trinity University for the three years.
- helped the Tigers advance to the NCAA Division III Playoffs each year and win three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships.
- Carrillo contributed to four players earning All-America honors, including Zoe Kaffen and Mary Kaffen in 2019.
- The Tiger tandem won the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southwest Doubles Championship in the fall of 2018.
- Caroline Kutach qualified as an All-American in the spring of 2018.
- Southwick advanced to the 2017 NCAA Singles Championship round of 16.
- Coach Carrillo received the TASC Performance Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III West Region Assistant Coach of the Year Award.
- He was the assistant coach for the Yellow Jackets men's and women's tennis teams from 2014-2016. The versatile Coach Carrillo was also Howard Payne's sports information director's assistant intern for two years.
